VLSI Research Inc.

In 2007, the SRC reached its 25th anniversary. In the same year, it was awarded the National Medal of Technology in a White House ceremony. This 25th anniversary video examines the history and accomplishments of the Semiconductor Research Corporation. It includes interviews with numerous industry luminaries and researchers who detail how the SRC works, its accomplishments and how it has touched their lives.

The SRC is a university research consortium sponsored by all segments of the semiconductor industry. SRC sponsors pre-competitive research programs on semiconductor technology at leading universities.

SIA Chairman and Texas Instruments CEO Rich Templeton said “The SRC’s collaborative research activities have played a critical role in maintaining U.S. leadership in semiconductor technology. The National Medal of Technology awarded to the SRC is a major honor and a well deserved recognition of their efforts and accomplishments.”

SIA President George Scalise said “For nearly 60 years, U.S. leadership in technology has been a major factor in driving economic growth, enhancing the productivity of American workers, improving our standard of living, advancing medicine and health care, and ensuring our national security.”

Scalise noted that the SRC will celebrate its 25th anniversary later this year. “Cumulative SRC investments in university research programs are approaching a billion dollars,” he continued. “More than 5,500 students and more than 1,200 faculty members have participated in these programs. In this sense, SRC-sponsored research is a significant investment in human capital, which in the final analysis is the key to leadership in technology.”
